Lagos Tertiary Games Begins Today

The fourth edition of Lagos Tertiary Games will begin today across designated centres in the state and end on 10 November.

The participating institutions will be competing for honours in Athletics (100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m, 4x400m), Basketball (men and women), Soccer (men), Beach Soccer (men), Table Tennis (singles-men and women), Volleyball (men and women) and Beach Volleyball (men and women).

According to the programme made available by the organisers to P.M.NEWS yesterday, Table Tennis will begin today at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos. The ping pongers are expected to end their game on Saturday. The Volleyball event will also commence today at Unilag. Basketball action has been fixed for Yaba College of Technology and it will start tomorrow and end next week Tuesday.

Football starts on Sunday at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Institutions expected to feature in the week-long tourney are University of Lagos, Lagos State University, Nigerian Army School of Finance, Lagos State Polytechnic, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Yaba College of Technology, School of Fisheries and Marine Technology.

Others are Michael Otedola College of Education, Federal College of Education (Technical), Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Grace Polytechnic, Ronik Polytechnic, Caleb University, Imota, Wave Crest School of Catering and Hotel Management, Ansal ud-Deen College of Education, Wolex Polytechnic and Lagos City Polytechnic.

The chairman of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, Prince Oladunjoye said that he is satisfied with the level of preparation of the schools, adding that this year’s tourney will be more competitive considering the fact that some institutions have started early preparation in order to surpass their last record at the Tertiary Games.
