Sports Festival: 16 Govs Storm Lagos For Flag Hoisting

Sixteen serving governors have confirmed their readiness to storm Lagos tomorrow for the hoisting of the 18th National Sports Festival, tagged Eko 2012, flag.

The event, which will hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere Lagos, will have President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President, Namadi Sambo and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja in attendance.

The Secretary of the Main Organising Committee, MOC, of the tournament, Abba Yola, confirmed to P.M.NEWS that 16 state governors have signified their interest to be part of the ceremony.

“I can confirm that at least 16 state governors have signified their interest to the MOC that they will personally be in Lagos for the flag hoisting ceremony.

“It is my hope that the host, Lagos State Government, is doing everything possible to receive all the personalities that will grace the occasion,” he said.

Yola, who was on inspection tour of facilities in Lagos with other officials of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, yesterday said the MOC will make its official statement on the state of facilities put in place by the host state on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, Rowe Park, the venue that will host Badminton and Basketball events, is wearing a new look. The Badminton indoor hall has been painted and refurbished to meet the required standard.

The changing and rest rooms of Badminton courts are in good condition, while the two Basketball courts are almost ready.

Waheed Adewale Adelekan, Secretary, Venues and Facilities sub-committee, who received the inspection team, assured that all the facilities put in place will be fully ready two weeks to the Sports Festival.
