AWC:Nigeria's Falcons beat Ivory Coast

Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Sunday defeated Cote d’Ivoire 3-1 in their last Group B match of the 2012 African Women Championship, AWC, and will face South Africa in the semi final of the competition in Equatorial Guinea.

The match, played at the Estadio de Malabo, which was not shown on television due to change in kick off time, saw the Nigerian ladies scoring in the 10th minute through Ogonna Chukwudi.

Ngozi Ebere scored Falcons’ second goal in the 41st minute through a perfectly taken free kick, as the Nigerian ladies ended the first half 2-0 against the Ivoriens.

The Nigerians sealed their semi final place in the second half with veteran player, Stella Mbachu scoring the third goal in the 75th minute, while their opponents pulled one back as N’rehy Tia Viho Ines scored their consolatory goal in the 82nd minute.

With the result, the Falcons finished as Group B leaders and will confront the second team in Group A, the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the last four on Wednesday.

The South African squad defeated DR Congo 4-1 in their last group game to finish second behind Group A leaders and hosts, Equatorial Guinea.
