Adeyinka, Fashola Relish Table Tennis Gold

A student of Yaba College of Technology, Ahmed Adeyinka defeated Badejo Bambo of the Federal College of Fisheries & Marine Technology in the final of the Table Tennis event of Lagos Inter-Tertiary Games held last Saturday at the Indoor Sports Hall of University of Lagos, Yaba, Lagos.

In the pulsating encounter watched by scanty spectators, Adeyinka defeated his counterpart 11-9, 11-5, 11-4 and 11-7 to retain the title won last year in the men’s singles, while Aminat Fashola, a student of Lagos State Polytechnic shocked  Funke Hassan of Lagos State Polytechnic 12-10,11-7,11-9 and 11-8 to win the women’s singles.

Adeyinka, an OND two student of Accounting Department at Yaba Tech told P.M. News that winning the gold medal in the Table Tennis event of the Tertiary Games will help him do well at the forthcoming  National Sports Festival.

Adeyinka said the tournament, put facilitated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant SSA on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Raji Fashola,  headed by Prince Wale Oladunjoye, will help the ping pongers five of whom are currently in camp of Team Lagos preparing for the festival.

“It was a good outing for me because I defended the title I won last year. I am also happy because this year’s edition is my last game and I feel great to have won something for my fans because very soon, I will complete my OND programme,” he said.

In her own remark, Fashola expressed gratitude to God for the victory. Having emerged  champion in the competition, Fashola, an ND 1 student of Business Administration, boasted that the Lagosians should expect a gold medal from her in the ping pong game at the Sports Festival, which begins on 27 November.
