Lagos Residents Speak On Constitutional Review

Residents in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, would gather tomorrow to discuss the planned constitutional review by the National Assembly, said Hon. Jide Hazeez Akinloye, a member of the House of Representatives.

“The House of Representatives has decided that all members should go back to their communities to organise a town hall meeting giving them the opportunity to contribute to the law that governs them,” said Akinloye at the steering committee meeting held at the Millennium Village Centre, Oke-Arin,Ologolo Village Rd,Etiosa-Lagos.

Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, who earlier chaired the steering committee meeting, said the purpose of tomorrow’s gathering at Eti-Osa Local Government Secretariat, Igbo-Efon, is to seek stakeholders’ opinions.

“The town hall meeting is designed to give citizens from the entire federal constituency nationwide the opportunity to express their own views and feelings not only on the 38 key issues that have been collated by the National Assembly, but also on other areas that have not caught the attention of the National Assembly,”  Owasanoye said.

He said the key issues are areas critical to advancing the growth and development of the country, adding that contributions by all stakeholders, including civil society organisations, National Union of Local Government Employees, teachers and students are welcome.
