The U-20 male soccer competition being put together in honour of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari has been postponed.
The organisers, African Youth Sports Federation (AYSOF), said the tournament for the North-East geo-political zone, expected to kick off on Thursday in Bauchi was postponed till after the 18th National Sports Festival in Lagos.
The federation’s Coordinator, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, told newsmen that the decision was reached after consultations with the stakeholders.
Ibrahim said the maiden edition of the competition would hold from 14-21 December.
He said the postponement was to enable the states to adequately prepare for the festival holding from 27 November to 9 December.
“The competition has beenpostponed after consultations with the stakeholders.
“It is also to allow the participating states to prepare adequately for the festival,’’ the coordinator told News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.
Ibrahim said about 13 teams were expected to participate in the competition, but did not disclose if there would be cash prizes.
