Ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Lagos, Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has boasted that his state will successfully defend the Garden Games, which it hosted and won two years ago.
An upbeat Amaechi, who was speaking while receiving the ‘Torch of Unity’, said Rivers State is coming to Lagos to show that what they did on home-soil was not a fluke.
Amaechi, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor Tele Ikuru, said their aim is to surpass their achievements at the last Sports Festival.
“This time around, we are participating to win and win double medals just as we did in the last festival,” he said.
“Team Rivers made the State proud when they participated and won gold, silver and bronze medals, this time our hopes are high, the team are prepared and would win,” he said.
