A sports analyst, Colin Udoh, says the ongoing Africa Women Championship (AWC) in Equatorial Guinea has not lived up to the expectations of fans.

Udoh told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the standard of play and officiating had fallen when compared with the previous editions.

“I think I have seen the standard fall slightly short of what we have seen in the past, it’s not the same thing as we’ve been used to.

“I think the last edition was slightly of higher standard and things have been made worst in my opinion by the refereeing blunders that we have seen so far.

“I had a chance to put some of those refereeing things on recorder and put them on YouTube and to be honest they were just flagrant incompetences.

“I don’t know what goes on; maybe it just looks as if when something happens somewhere it just goes across the world.

“I mean when we had the issue of diving we had players diving in England, diving in Europe diving in America.

“And all of a sudden we are having refereeing issues in England and it just seems to rob off on every other tournament. So, I think the tournament could be better.

“I don’t know if maybe the T.V coverage and the fact that it is being played in Equatorial Guinea, but kudos to them for hosting it, I really think the standard can be much higher,’’ Udoh said.
