Cricket T20 Match: Team Ogun Beat Nigeria’s U-17 Squad

Team Ogun defeated Nigeria’s U-17 squad in a T20 match organised by the Nigeria Cricket Federation, NCF in collaboration with the Ogun State Cricket Foundation to honour Chief Lamidi Sofenwa to mark his 85th Birthday.

In the match played at the M.K.O Abiola International Stadium Cricket Oval at the weekend, Ogun State won by 7 wickets. The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Nigeria U-17 team scored 64 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Only Ajekun Daniel managed a double figure of 16 runs off 58 balls. Kunle Ologbosere of Ogun state did the damage with the ball by taking 5 wickets for 10 runs in 4 overs.

The second innings saw Ogun State scoring 65 runs in 16 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. Ogunbayo Dayo however topped the scores for the hosts with 28 runs off 46 balls.

The occasion was graced by top dignitaries from in and around Ogun State. Governor Ibikunle Amosun was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Gbenga  Otenuga. Other dignitaries included Allen- Taylor, Chairman, House Committee on Youth, Sports and Employment Generation, Acting Director of Sports, Bayo Faleti, President of the NCF, Kwesi Sagoe,  General Manager of the NCF, George Wiltshire and Secretary of the federation, Patrick Okeke.

The Ogun State Government made a donation of N250,000  to the state’s cricket foundation,  led from its inception by Chief Lamidi Sofenwa. The 73-78 set of Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro led by Soleye Hughes also made a donation to Chief Sofenwa.

The Nigeria Cricket Federation also honoured him with a life time service award for his contribution to the development of cricket in Ogun State and cricket in Nigeria.

The celebrant also donated cricket equipment to the Ogun State Cricket team.
