Lawson Eyes Football Gold
Chief Coach of Team Lagos, Tunde Lawson believes that Team Osun and other states that qualified for the football event, cannot stop his team from winning the gold medal of the National Sports Festival.
The Chairman of Osun State Football Association, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi has been boasting recently on pages of newspapers that his team are battle ready to clinch the gold medal in the football event at the expense of Lagos and other states.
Having done well in some friendly matches played recently, Lawson said his team cannot afford to go for anything less than the gold medal.
The former coach of Fashola Football Academy, told P.M.News that he is aware of the current form of Team Osun and other states, but declared that his job is at stake if he fails to win the Games’ football gold.
“It is true that Team Osun have good players but we are not afraid of them. Infact, they cannot stop us from winning the gold medal in the football event.
“The officials of Lagos Football Association, LFA, have tasked us to go for gold, and warned that anything short of that will not be acceptable, so we have to work hard to achieve that” he said.
In his own comments, Assistant Coach of Team Lagos, Bankole Olowookere is optimistic that with the calibre of players in camp, Team Lagos will emerge winners in the football event.
Team Lagos will play the City of David United Football Team, COD on Friday at the Astro Turf of the National Stadium in Surulere to intensify their preparation for the EKO 2012 games. Team Lagos defeated 36 Lion FC 2-1 on Sunday in a friendly match played at Agege Stadium.
Meanwhile, Team Osun will play Kwara United this evening at the Shagamu Township Stadium and confront Crown of Ogbomosho tomorrow at the Oyo Township Stadium in continuation of their build up for the National Sports Festival.
