Residents of New Oko Oba community, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have commended the new Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Oko Oba Police Division, Mr. Akintade Williams(DSP), for reducing crime rate in the area within the short time he has resumed duty in the area.
Speaking with P.M.NEWS, a member of the Police Community Relations Committee, who did not want his name published said: “Since the arrival of the new DPO, the area has witnessed relative peace.”
“Until recently, robbers were terrorising us every night, but there is respite now.
“In fact, the efforts of the new DPO is worth commending. Unlike before when we could not sleep well as a result of robberies in this community, incidents of robbery has been reduced,” he said.
Meanwhile, operators of beer parlours in the area are not happy with the DPO as they have been given daily deadline of 11 p.m. to close shops as against the former practice when they could operate till 2 a.m. or 3 a.m.
When P.M.NEWS visited Oko Oba Police Station to get the DPO’s reaction on the new order, he was said to have gone to the command headquarters for security briefing but a police source at the station confirmed the measure.
The source explained that investigations have revealed that most robberies are planned at beer parlours.
