Adewale Harps On Tree Planting

Chairman, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government area of Lagos State, Comrade Ayodele Adewale has spoken on the importance of tree planting to include its aesthetic value, combats global warming, storing harmful pollutants, cleaning roadside spills and water runoff,  absorbing and locking away carbon dioxide during windy and cold seasons,  acting as windbreaker and mostv importantly  serving as mitigating measures to the effect of global warming, which is the most dreaded environmental problem known to the world today.

Therefore, in line with Lagos State Government policy on green, safe and healthy environment, Adewale had planted and maintained over 4,500 trees of various species like: Kings palm, Queens palm and Royal palm, in the community.

It is very horrendous and sadden that some commuters and residents are using the green lawns as route with impunity, an act which will jeopardize the survival of the trees.

Recently,a female  resident of the council area was caught crossing the green lawn with her car under the pretence that she is a foreigner, all efforts to caution her was futile, her husband, Mr Kens Momoh, the CEO of Kessingsheen, who later came to the scene of the event, was also not apologetic and remorseful , but was boastful that if his wife had destroyed the green lawn, he is ready to pay N10 million.

She was later accosted by council officials, but the couple was not remorseful until the intervention of the council chairman, Comrade Adewale who scolded the woman,

He frowned at the actions of some motorists crossing the green zones. The council boss stated that anybody caught degrading the environment will face the wrath of the law without minding whose ox is gored.

The LG boss underscored the need to protect the green zones from hazards. He stressed the fact that all and sundry should be involved and save this precious planet from imminent disaster that might be caused by the destruction of trees .He further enjoined the populace to follow the blue print of Lagos State Government on environmental sustainability.

‘’Apart from planting of trees, the LGA under this administration had taken commendable steps in sustaining the environment, some of which include clearing and desilting of drainages, regular sanitation exercise, effective waste management, continuous sensitization on environmental sustainability through its climate change unit and environmental department among others’’ he said.
