Sports Festival: LOC Drills Security Volunteers

In an effort to ensure that all its security personnel, functions well, the Local Organising Committee, LOC, of the 2012 National Sports Festival tagged ‘Eko 2012’, through the  security subcommittee, have concluded plans to drill all the volunteers to be used as stewards for the Games on Wednesday.

This disclosure was made at the weekend by Head of Security Operations for the Games, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Gideon Akinsola, while delivering a lecture on crowd control and management at the LOC Secretariat inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

According to Akinsola, about 500 volunteers that would be used as security stewards during the Games would pass through physical drilling inside the Main Bowl of the stadium from 8am-10am on Wednesday. He added that oral examinations would also be carried out on the stewards based on all they had been taught during a 2-day training held at the weekend.

While speaking further, the Chief Security Officer for the Super Eagles, said there is  need to ensure that all the 500 volunteers that include students drawn from the cadet and Man ‘O’ War of the University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology, National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, and others, are put through a basic security training to be ready for the rigours they would face while performing their duties.
