Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji has been commended for his leadership role in the state.
Presenting an award for Political Leadership to the Speaker at the Assembly chamber recently, the Chairman of the Lagos State Ministry of Information Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Mr. Mukaila Sanusi, described the Lagos State House of Assembly as forward looking, credible and effective under the leadership of Ikuforiji.
According to him, the House has been able to do its oversight functions effectively.
“Speaker Ikuforiji is a friend of the media; the state House of Assembly has progressed under his leadership,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Ikuforiji thanked the organisers of the award, saying that it is not part of him to accept just any award.
“The award of the state Ministry of Information Chapel of NUJ gladdens my heart.
“I am proud of it, not only because it is from the fourth estate of the realm, which happens to be the watchdog of the society, but because I don’t even know how they arrived at the award.
“They have never invited me to any programme, I have never given them money for any project and they have never solicited for funds from me,” he stated.
The Speaker added that the award has challenged him to work harder and that it would serve as a check on him and his activities since people are watching whatever he does. He promised to step up efforts in his service to the state.
