Nigerian Stars Dominate 2012 Channel O MVA

It is safe to say year 2012 has been a remarkable one for the teen singing sensation, Davido, as he joined in the haul of awards by Nigerians at the 9th Annual Channel O Music Video Awards held at Walter Sisulu Square, Kliptown, Soweto, South Africa on 17 November.

Davido won the awards as the Most Gifted Newcomer of the Year during the night that saw kokomaster, D’Banj, scooping two awards–Most Gifted Video of the Year for his mega hit video Oliver Twist directed by ‘Sesan Ogunro, and Most Gifted Male Video of the Year.

Chocolate City also had a strong outing with two awards. Brymo’s Ara won Most Gifted Afro Pop Video of the Year and Ice Prince’s Superstar scooped Most Gifted Hip-Hop Video of the Year.

Though Tiwa Savage lost out to Zahara in the Most Gifted Female Video of the Year category, the Nigerian diva shared an honour with Flavour, whose track Oyi won an award for the Most Gifted RnB Video of the Year.  P-Square’s mega hit remix video for Chop My Money featuring Akon and ex-label mate May D won the Most Gifted Group/Duo of the Year award.

The Nigerian/Ghanaian connection was solidified as D-Black’s collaborative effort with Mo’Cheddah for Falling was chosen as Most Gifted West African Video of the Year.

This year’s awards, hosted by Nigerian rapper, Ice Prince and Bonang Matheba, was a promise fulfilled as the event was filled with glitz and glamour in a generously beautified atmosphere and an impressive attendance of big names in African Music.
