ALBUM REVIEW: Anticipation By Kolade Onanuga

Impressive is the word that best describes Kolade Onanuga’s debut album, Anticipation. The album is a double audio compact disc and has 12 track.

The opening track, Ilu Alujo (dancehall), starts slowly before moving to a pulsating tempo. It features a homage to King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, sung over  saxophone riffs and generously sprinkled with percussion.

The second track Truth is dedicated to his friend, Adisa Peller, and other friends. Other tracks on the first disc are Aquilla, Laide Fowosere, Let’s Dance as well as Olowo Anu ni Adeniyi, a tribute to Dr. Mike Adenuga,  Chairman of Globacom. The tributes on Onanuga’s album are cleverly handled in way that will not provoke boredom.

On the second disc, the first track, Ori Mi, is a solemn song that is heavy on the Yoruba belief that the head (presumed to be an inner head) directs the affairs of men. From there, Onanuga moved Akaba Islander, London Special, Fashionista and Orin Tuntun, which is another danceable song.

The album is a deposit of well  composed songs, dexterous arrangement and delectable vocals. Onanuga, also known as KLB1, is a sound-alike of King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal.
