I Wasn’t Robbed —Yeni

Eldest daughter of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Yeni, has denied being a victim of a robbery attack. An e-mail, purportedly composed by her, recently went to many people on her mailing list, claiming that the dancer and sister to Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, was robbed. Yeni told Entertainment Café that the e-mail was the handiwork of fraudsters, who hacked into her Facebook and e-mail accounts with the intention to dupe her friends, fans and business associates.

The mail, which was sent to Entertainment Cafe, read: “I’m writing with tears in my eyes. We came to UK for a short vacation and I was mugged at gunpoint last night at the park of the hotel where I lodged and all cash and phones were stolen off me. Thank God we have our lives and passport. I have been to the Embassy and the Police here, but they are not helping issues and they asked us to wait for three weeks, but we can’t wait till then .My flight leaves in less than three hours from now and we are having problems in sorting hotel bills. I need your help right now.”

Yeni said that apart from the mail, other mails were sent to beg for MTN air time. “Can you imagine that the fraudsters are so wretched to the extent of demanding  for airtime. I m scared I don’t want my business partners duped,” she said.

Yeni is currently in Nigeria and working with the organisers of the 2012 National Sports Festival to groom about 200 dancers for the opening ceremony. The dancers will be performing a choreography of Fela’s Water No Get Enemy at the ceremony.
