Lagos Assembly Begins Inspection Of LG Projects

The Lagos State House of Assembly has begun an inspection tour of all the 20 local government areas and the 37 local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state to ascertain how well the councils have utilised their allocations in 2012.

An aspect of the tour by the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs is the inspection of projects executed by the council chairmen since their inception of office.

According to the Chairman of the Committee, Moshood Oshun, the inspection is aimed at confirming the claims by the council chairmen that they are working and to further address public complaints that chairmen of local governments do not work.

After inspecting two projects each at the Agege Local Government Area and the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, Oshun told P.M. NEWS that the Committee would not only openly commend or condemn any erring chairman, but will ensure that the Committee’s report reflects its findings.

While the Committee members commended the Agege Local Government chairman, Jubreel AbdulKareem Ayodeji, after randomly inspecting two of the 38 projects he listed, they were not happy with his counterpart in Orile-Agege LCDA, Taofeek Adaranijo for not making the list of his projects available to the Committee prior to the visit.

They, however, inspected a road and a drainage in the area expressing dissatisfaction with the shoddy way the drainage was constructed.

Oshun urged residents of the area to support government’s efforts by keeping their environment and drains clean.

He urged all Health Officers of councils in the state to engage residents and make them realise the consequence of keeping dirty environments.
