Man Docked For Killing

A 21-year old man, Wasiu Hamza of Osin Odo-Ode village in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State has been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court for allegedly hitting a man with a wooden hoe, which resulted in his death.

The accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector James Odaodu, it was Gbadamosi Muritala of the same village who had on 8 November reported at Divisional Police headquarters, Afon, that the accused callously and brutally hit Dele Dauda with a wooden hoe on the head thereby causing his untimely death.

Police First Information Report, FIR, on the matter stated that investigation conducted by the State Criminal Intelligence Department, Ilorin, revealed that the accused caused the death by clubbing him with a hoe for inexplicable reason.

The prosecutor objected to the bail of the accused, describing the offence as a capital one and not ordinarily bailable.

Upholding the submission of the Prosecutor, Magistrate H.A. Alege ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Mandala, Ilorin and adjourned the case till 6 December for further mention.
