The Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, south-west Nigeria, Comrade Ayodele Adewale has joined the calls for the convocation of Sovereign National Conference (SNC) while describing the ongoing constitution review as a charade.
Adewale who was speaking when he received the Consular General of the US, Jeff Hawkins at the council secretariat said the SNC will give Nigerians the opportunity to discuss important issues such as how they like to be governed, resource control and the place of local government in governance.
He said the constitution review cannot meet the aspirations of the people but SNC will address salient issues including, resource control, autonomy for local governments, state police, council police and revenue allocation formula.
He noted that there were laws on environment but the enforcement was the issue to be taken seriously, expressing the belief in persuasion to make people reason and do the right things rather than being coerced.
The Amuwo-Odofin council boss said the doors of the LG were open to investors to come and experience the lucrative opportunities in the area, advising them to do away with the stigma of Nigeria being a corrupt and dangerous country to do business.
Adewale appealed to people especially those in the International Trade Fair area to pay their rates to enable the council to provide them with the necessary infrastructure.
Earlier, the council boss conducted his guest, Hawkins round facilities in the council.
