Freed Prisoner Arrested Again For Robbery
A freed prisoner has been arrested for robbery again.
Ibrahim Isah, 30, who was released from prison custody two weeks ago, is facing another charge of armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.
The police arrested Isah and his gang member, Omole Ilemana, 29, who were in possession of a local made gun loaded with cartridges and charged them to the Apapa Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the criminal offences.
The ex-convict, who said he is an indigene of Niger State but grew up in Lagos State, confessed that that has been involved in armed robbery for 15 years and out of those years, he had spent eight years in Kirikiri Prison, Lagos State.
He said he joined the gang at the age of 15 years and had been involved in several operations within and outside the state.
“The circumstance that led me into robbery is a long story, I was introduced into it and I have seen the good and bad sides of it. This is the other side of it,” he said.
During interrogation, Isah disclosed that some of his gang members have died, but he reconnected with Ilemana, an indigene of Ogun State, when he came out of prison about two weeks ago.
On the day they were arrested, he said they had set out to go and rob around 1 a.m before a Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, team accosted and arrested them.
When our reporter asked him how he felt being arrested again, Isah said he was not scared because had been there before and he knew that it was one of those things he would face as an armed robber.
Isah and his accomplice have been charged with armed robbery and illegal possession of gun contrary to sections 409 and 328 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
They pleaded not guilty but their plea was not granted
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. A K Shonubi, remanded them in prison custody and adjourned the matter till 14 January 2013.
