2 Charged With Bank Fraud

Two men, Paul Alajemba 34 and Ebioma Akujobi, 40 have been arraigned before a kirikiri magistrate court, Apapa, Lagos, on a three-count charge of defrauding a Micro Finance Bank of N600,000.

The police at the Trade Fair Complex Division, Ojo, Lagos, alleged in charge suit No. MCK/119/2012 that the accused were arrested following a complaint by the management of AB Micro Finance Bank, Aspamda Branch, Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Lagos, that the defendants in the month of June, 2012 at Imo Plaza, BBA Market, Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, approached them for a N600,000 loan, which they gave after they used their purported house and a shop as collateral.

The bank management, they stated later discovered that the collateral they used in securing the loan were fake as they refused to repay the money.

The offences, the prosecutor, Corporal Inedu Friday, said contravene sections 409, 285 and 312 (1) (a ) of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2011.

One of the charges read: “That you, Paul Alajemba and Obioma Akujobi, on the same date, time  and place in the aforesaid magisterial district did use fake address to obtain the sum of N600,000 from AB Micro Finance Bank, Aspamda branch, Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Lagos.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the presiding magistrate, Mr. Amos granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the matter till 14 December, 2012.
