Borno sacks Chief medical director

Nigeria’s Borno Government, tormented often by Boko Haram violence, on Thursday announced that it has relieved the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the state’s Hospital Management Board, Dr Abubakar Hassan, of the post.

Malam Isa Gusau the Special Adviser to Governor Kashim Shettima made the announcement in a statement in Maiduguri.

Gusau said that Hassan had been replaced with Dr Salihu Kwaya-Bura, a consultant
gynaecologist.

“Borno State Government has relieved the CMD of the state Hospital Management
Board Dr Abubakar Hassan of his appointment.

“The state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, has confirmed the appointment of Dr Salihu
Kwaya-Bura, a consultant gynoaecologist as the new CMD of the board,” he said.

Gusau explained that the action was based on section 5 sub-section 4 of the Borno State
Management Board Laws 1991 which vested the appointment of the CMD on the state
governor.

Hassan had served the board for about 10 years before the termination of his appointment.

The statement added that Kwaya-Bura’s appointment was based on his wealth of experience and dedication to duty in line with the administrations desire to address the decay in the health sector.

“Shettima has challenged the new CMD to key into the transformation agenda of the administration so as to accelerate the process of providing standard and affordable health care service to the people,” Gusau said.
