SWAN Cup Hots Up In Lagos

The 2012 SWAN Cup, a soccer championship organised by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Lagos chapter, kicked off amidst funfare yesterday.

The 5-A-Side competition, which is holding at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Institute of Sports at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, produced some dramatic fireworks when the Veteran Team defeated the Amazons in one of the matches played yesterday. The Veteran, who paraded the likes of CEO of Brila FM, Larry Izamoje, Mitchell Obi of Master Sport, Jenkins Alumona, Paul Ogazi of NTA, Tony Ubani of Vanguard defeated the Amazons captained by Aishat Falode of AIT/Raypower 3-2.

Other teams that won their matches yesterday included SportsDay, who beat FRCN 4-0, NTA defeated Compass 4-0, VON Pipped Silverbird 2-1.

Action continues tomorrow as Compass battle The Sun, Top Radio take on NTA, SuperSport settle scores with Brila FM, LTV and cool FM go to war, Sportsville slug it out against Compass, while Complete Sports tackle Ray Power.

STV versus SportsDay, Top Radio versus Sporsville and TVC battle LTV.

Chairman of the Sports Committee of SWAN, Godwin Enakhena commended the peaceful conduct of all the teams. SportsDay are the defending champions of the tournament.
