Head Coach of the Calisto Boxing Club, Isiaka Olatunji, has praised the boxing team of Lagos State for surpassing the feat of the Garden City Games at the just-concluded 18th National Sports Festival, tagged ‘Eko 2012’.

Team Lagos raked in a total of 9 medals; 8 gold 1 bronze, a shade better than the 7 gold; 1 silver, 1 bronze that they won in Port Harcourt.  In a chat with P.M News, Olatunji praised the team for breaking their own record, adding that they have done the Lagos State proud.

“These boxers have done so well by winning more medals than they won at the Garden City Games. They have really proved to Nigerians that Lagos State is the home of boxing in Nigeria,” said Olatunji.

However, Olatunji appealed to the State Government to render more support to the sport, adding that the state can make a clean sweep of the medals at stake in the boxing event in Calabar.

“Lagos State government must continue to support boxing so that the state can win more medals at the next edition in Calabar. I believe that the state can win more medals in Calabar if the government can do more than they did for the boxers in the build-up to the Eko 2012,” said Olatunji.
