1 Killed, 3 Injured In Accident

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Thursday in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, when a motorcyclist was killed while three others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the motorcylist simply identified as Kunle was conveying a passenger from Odo-Owa to Omu-Aran when the accident occurred around 6 a.m.

NAN reports that the accident,  which happened in front of Federal Government Girl’s College, Omu-Aran, involved the motorcycle with registration number  QV 902 LSD and a saloon car marked APP 665 XA.

The victim,  whose corpse was brought to Omu-Aran General Hospital by FRSC officials,   was said to have died instantly while the passenger had a broken leg.

NAN reports that the passenger was rushed to a nearby private hospital for  treatment.

A brother of  the deceased, who preferred anonymity, told NAN that the deceased was hired by the passenger to embark on the journey when the unfortunate incident.

The cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained as there was no witness to the incident.

The driver of the car,  who was said to have reported himself at Alakaka Divisional Police Command, Omu-Aran, was still being interrogated as  at the time of filing in this report.

The corpse  of the motorcyclist had since been released to the family.

Two other persons sustained  injuries in an accident involving a BMW saloon car marked  AJ 595 MUN  on Landmark University road.

An eyewitness, Raheem Abiodun, told NAN that the two persons were walking  by the road side when the car veered off and knocked them down.

“I think the two people were on their way to work  on foot when the car veered off the road and hit them,” he said.

Angry youths in the area were said to have  broken the  vehicle’s front and back windscreens, claiming that the driver did not  show remorse over the accident.

The injured persons,  who were said to be  unconscious following the impact of the accident,  were still receiving treatment at a private hospital.

The Divisional Police Officer  in  Omu-Aran, Mr Rasak Adebayo,  confirmed the two incidents and  said his command had started investigations.
