Lagos Traffic Law: Group Calls For Understanding

A socio-political organisation, Humanity Services project (HSP), has called on all stakeholders involved directly or indirectly in the new Lagos State Traffic Law to show understanding in the interest of Lagos residents and the general public.

The group, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman and General Secretary, Linus Okoroji and Nelson Ekujumi respectively, saluted the tenacity of Okada riders in challenging the new law in the law court just as it enjoined them to “explore the legal process to a logical conclusion.”

The concerned group called for caution on the part of the cyclists who appear restive over the matter, warning that “any act that can be detrimental to the peace and progress of the state can never augur well for the whole country because of the state’s status as a mini Nigeria.”

The statement also appealed to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), to “exhibit his usual understanding in line with democratic norms by ensuring the release of arrested protesters in the spirit of the season.”

The new Traffic Law, according to the group could only be beneficial “when all the stakeholders exhibit a sense of maturity and regard for due process and the rule of law.”
