Nuhu Bajoga nominated as deputy governor

Governor Mukhtar Yero of Nigeria’s Kaduna State has nominated a former Nigerian ambassador to Poland, Nuhu Bajoga as the new deputy governor of the state.

Bajoga, who hails from Jaba Local Government, is the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Announcing the nomination in Kaduna, the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Saidu Adamu said Bajoga’s name had been forwarded to the state House of Assembly for approval.

He said Governor Yero had met with all stakeholders in the state before agreeing on the nomination.

Aged, 63, Bajoga was a former Nigeria’s Ambassador to Poland.

The deputy governor’s seat became vacant following the death of Governor Ibrahim Yakowa in a military helicopter crash in Bayelsa state two weeks ago and the ascension of Yero, his deputy as governor.

There were speculations that the party’s bigwigs may appoint Amina Yakowa, widow of the former governor as the deputy governor, but Bajoga’s nomination has squelched all such considerations.

However, some southern Kaduna youths have kicked against Bajoga’s choice for the reason that he is old and might not represent the interest of the area.

Nasiru Jagaba, National Public Relations Officer of Southern Kaduna People’s Union, SOKAPU at a press briefing today said the youths of southern Kaduna reject the nomination of Bajoga because he is an old man with no political weight in the area.

“We want a young and vibrant politician from our area that understands our predicaments as youths”.Jagaba stated.
