Eko 2012 Gold medallist, Olaide Fijabi yesterday added another feather to his cap, as he emerged the best boxer at the 4th Governor’s Belt tournament held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre in Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos.

Fijabi of Star Boxing Club, outpunched Hameed Rufai of No Shaking Boxing Club in the 64kg category to win the coveted belt, which is an icing on the cake for the Team Lagos skipper who won many laurels in the outgoing year.

A happy Fijabi told P.M.NEWS that he is happy he has finally won the belt that is  so precious to his heart.

“I am delighted that my dream of winning the Governor’s Belt has come true today (Boxing Day). I am happy that I have won it because it took me consistent training and hard work,” said Fijabi.

“I thought I would win it last year but it somehow slipped off my hands for reasons I couldn’t understand. But I made up my mind that I would win it this time around and I’m happy that I have done so.”

The three-time National Sports Festival gold medallist said he will cherish the belt more than other laurels he has won in the past.

“I cherish this belt more than any medal or trophy that I have won in the past. The fact that it has eluded me for a long time makes it the most important laurel that I have ever won since I began my boxing career,” Fijabi said.
