New Gold, Dangote Cement gain, market cap rises

Market capitalization on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) appreciated the first day of trading after the holidays, as some blue chips ended up with appreciable price gains.

The market capitalisation closed at N8.862 trillion from the N8.737 trillion recorded on Monday.

The All-Share Index, which opened at 27,346.65, appreciated by 391.04 points or 1.4 per cent to close at 27,737.69.

NewGold led the gainers’ chart with a gain of N12 to close at N2,530 per unit, while Dangote Cement followed with N6.10 to close at N128.1 per share.

Guinness grew by N4.15 to close at N265.15 per share, while OkomuOil appreciated by N1.90 to close at N39.90 per share.

Lafarge Wapco rose by N1.35 to close at N59.40 per share.

On the other hand, ForteOill led the price losers’ chart, dropping 40k to close at N7.73 per share.

International Breweries depreciated by 15k to close at N15.75 per share, while Transexpress lost 14k to close N2.78 per share.

Stanbic IBTC dipped by 7k to close at N10.93.

A total of 238.13 million shares worth N1.9 billion in 2,646 deals were exchanged against the 116.08 million shares valued at N1.3 billion traded in 2,006 deals on Monday. (NAN)
