The coming year, like the outgoing 2012, will have a busy schedule in the local and on international scene for both professional and amateur boxers.

In amateur boxing, the Monthly Saturday Boxing Show, will be a major highlight in the coming year, providing ample moments for boxing fans just as it did in the outgoing year. Olaide Fijabi is one of the boxers looking forward to the competition.

The high points of the show will be the clash between Lagos ABA against Repton Boys Club of London, which will come up in the second half of the year and the 5th Governor’s Belt tournament which normally holds on Boxing Day.

On the international scene, former WBA/IBF champion, Amir Khan has vowed that there will be no repeat of the mistakes he made the first time against Danny Garcia in the rematch. The boxer hopes the bout can be arranged for late next year.

Khan returned to winning ways on 16 December with a 10th–round stoppage triumph over Carlos Molina in Los Angeles, five months after losing his WBA Light Welterweight title to WBC champion Garcia in Las Vegas.

Khan, who subsequently switched trainers from Freddie Roach to Virgil Hunter, maintained that he has already improved with Hunter in his corner and is sure he will not be susceptible to the same errors he made in their first clash.

Also in the coming year, unbeaten American boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. may probably change trainers after revealing that his coach and uncle, Roger Mayweather is “very, very sick.”

In an interview with Fight Hype, Mayweather said he may once again work with his father, Floyd Mayweather Snr., while he gives his uncle Roger time to recover.

“At this particular time, I’m thinking about working back with my father. Roger, you know he’s very, very sick at this particular time,” Mayweather said.
