The show, which was preceded by a black carpet reception, kicked off with the trio of Wizkid, Niyola and Shaydee, who sang the national anthem. Their rendition was followed by an EME All-Stars performance of their popular track, The Baddest from their Empire State of Mind album. Each act on the label later took turns to perform individually.

Next up were Banky, Wizkid and Skales, who performed alongside guest artistes like Cobhams, D’Prince, Wande Coal, Ice Prince, Olu Maintain, Samklef, Waje and Iceberg Slim. Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy also made a cameo appearance on stage to introduce Skales.

One of the many highlights of the concert was when Wizkid introduced and welcomed on stage his perceived rival, Davido. The youngsters first dispelled the insinuations that there is a beef between them, before launching into the performance of Davido’s hit track All of You.

Produced by R28, an events company, the gig had stand-up comedian Basketmouth.

EME has recorded numerous achievements this year, including sold-out concerts in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.

Banky W Bags New Title

In any language these must spell success: Successful tours of America and Europe, a hit album by all the artistes on the label and a Pepsi endorsement deal for the label’s star turn, Wizkid.

Banky W

Add all that to a sold out Baddest Concert in Lagos and you will understand why stand-up comedian, Basketmouth, is thrilled by Banky W, Chairman, Empire Mates Entertainment, EME. When Davido, Olu Maintain Caused  Money Rain

Nobody goes to a concert and expect to be paid for doing so. But last Friday, some music fans at the Oceanview Ground, venue of EME Baddest Concert in Lagos, somehow got paid.

While performing his hit track, Big Boy, alongside Banky W, Olu Maintain responded to the cheers he got from the crowd by throwing naira and dollar bills in the air.

There are no garlands for guessing the reaction it provoked. But there was more, not exactly from where that came from.

The other source was Davido who, when he performed, brought out a bale of N1000, tore off the wrapper and flung the notes in the air.

Waje Turns Manager To Driver

Manager of Afro-pop singer, Waje, appears to have been given additional responsibility.

The chap, who is known as Michael, drove a wine-coloured Honda CRV car to the venue of the Baddest Concert–with Waje seated at what is known locally as “owner’s corner.”

And when security men at the entrance of Oceanview Restaurant insisted that he could not take the car in, Michael had to plead with them that passenger at the back was a celebrity that should not be seen strolling into the venue. Their boss came to identify her and the car was allowed in. Those who witnessed the scene could not help but ask if Michael also doubles as a chaffeur.
