Bus driver kills FRSC officer, soldier shoots another

An officer of Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC from the Ijebu-Ode Unit, in Ogun state, Mr Olusoji Olaleye hit today by a luxury bus driver at an accident scene in the Zone, has died.
The officer was among the corps marshalls trying to untangle a multiple vehicle crash at Ososa junction on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway.
The grey luxury bus, marked XC 373 NEN and owned by Young Shall Grow Motors sped recklessly
past the rescue team, hitting Olaleye, who was said to be writing the registration numbers of the five vehicles involved in the crash. Olaleye was thrown into the river, where his body was recovered later.
The accident which injured several people, caused a gridlock on the busy highway. Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and the Police from Ijebu Ode, were trying to clear the gridlock by diverting traffic, when the luxury bus sped by, and hit Olaleye.
Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Commander Omiyale said: “It was disheartening and very painful that such officer died in such a way. That shows the incorrigible attitude of some of the drivers.The officer, among the others from the Ijebu Ode unit went for rescue mission along the expressway. On getting to the scene, they diverted the on coming vehicles to take a particular route in order to ease their work while trying to rescue those affected in an accident that
caused a gridlock along the road.
“The reckless driver refused to comply with the directives as he drove towards the officers and sped off to avert been arrested by which the man was hit and drown in the river. His death is very painful but we have accepted it as a fate of God”, Omiyale submitted.
The affected vehicles are a white tanker truck with registration number XA 769 KNM, two empty trucks registered as XV 514 APP and XP 987 KSF, one green Mazda car registered as FQ 658 EKY and a wine colour Jeep.
In a related development, an Assistant Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ibrahim Idris, was Sunday shot by a soldier in Maiduguri, Borno state, according to a statement by the FRSC.
The statement made available to P.M. NEWS on Sunday evening, said the late Idris was hit by a stray bullet fired by a soldier, whose name was not given, while he was on traffic control at the Post office area of the state capital.
The incident, according to the FRSC, happened at about 2.30pm on Sunday.
The statement said the victim has been taken to the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri where he is being treated.
