Ekiti Varsity Students Petition Fayemi
About 500 Part time students of Nigeria’s Ekiti State University, formerly University of Ado Ekiti have petitioned the state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who wears the toga of visitor to the university.
The students had waited 18 months without results and they want the governor to assist them.
Investigations revealed that part-time students of the Department of Public Administration completed their studies since July 2011 but have not seen their results.
One of the affected students, Ubaka Ehidu, 32, told P.M.NEWS that other part-time students who completed their programmes in July 2011 got their results in October 2012.
Ubaka blamed the Coordinator of Public Administration Department, Olatunji Ebenezer Olaoye for the delay in the release of results of more than 500 students for almost 18 months.
His claim was corroborated by his class governor, Adedotun Otitoju who disclosed that several efforts made to see their coordinator proved abortive.
According to Ubaka, Olaoye was a doctorate student at the University of Lagos, adding that some of his colleagues made efforts to locate him at the Department of Political Science, UNILAG but could not.
He explained that the students contacted Dr. Toyin Abe who advised them to meet the coordinator, School of Part-Time Studies, Dr. Ibimiluwa who advised them to meet Olaoye.
Ubaka said problem arose because they gathered that Olaoye did not submit their results to the University Senate, without which they cannot graduate.
He appealed to Governor Fayemi to prevail on the University’s authorities to intervene.
“We learnt the University Senate will meet January this year. If our level coordinator (Olaoye) failed to submit our results before the January meeting, only God knows when we shall graduate,” he said.
On behalf of his colleagues, he appealed to Governor Fayemi to prevail on the university to release their results.
Efforts made by P.M.NEWS to reach Ebenezer Olaoye were not successful as calls made to his mobile phone did not go through.
