Lagos Assembly Confirms Abiru As Clerk

Nigeria’s  Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday confirmed the appointment of Mr. Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru as the Clerk of the  House.

In a message communicated to the Speaker by the Chairman, House of Assembly Service Commission, Mr. Wale Mogaji, and read at the plenary session, it was stated that the appointment took effect from October, 2011.

Mr. Abiru had been acting as Clerk of the House since August, 2011 after the retirement of the former Clerk , Mr. Taiwo Olatunji.

He joined the State Civil Service in 1983 after his National Service and had since served in various capacities beginning as Higher Executive Officer (HEO) coordinating the Ministry of Finance’s movement from the Old Block to the present Block12 as well as management and allied matters.

The Clerk also worked at the Ministry of Finance, Agric Land Holdings Authority as Secretary, Agricultural Development Project as Head of Personnel, Ministry of Information, Culture and Sports as Head of Planning, Research and Statics, Central Licensing Authority, Board of Internal Revenue, Lagos State Public Works Bureau as Secretary and Head of Hackney, Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board as Secretary.

He further worked with the Local Government Service Commission, Office of Infrastructure and the Civil Service Commission.

He was later elevated to the post of Deputy Director through Special Advancement approved by former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu in recognition of his dedication, commitment to duty and sense of Industry.

Before his deployment to the House of Assembly as the Director, Finance and Administration, Mr. Abiru had a brief stint with the Ikorodu Local Government where he served as Executive Secretary between August and November 2008.
