Cricket Tourney: Nigeria Plans Strong Squad

Chief Operating Officer, COO, of Nigeria Cricket Federation, NCF, George Wiltshire, says the country will present a formidable squad for the ICC-Africa T20 Division 1 Tournament which will take place in Kampala, Uganda mid February this year.

As part of preparation for the competition, the COO said the federation has called up 30 players for the first phase of camping ahead of the African tournament.

According to Wiltshire, the intensive camping and trials started yesterday in Lagos and will end on 16 January. He disclosed that 16 players will be selected to dorn the colours of Nigeria at the Uganda competition at the end of the trials.

Top on the list of invited players is the national team’s skipper, Endurance Ofem, who plays for Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club.

The others are Kunle Adegbola, Demola Onikoyi, Emmanuel Okwudili, Segun Olayinka, Jide Bejide, Lekan Awolowo, Seye Olympio, Ramit Gill, Saheed Akolade, Ricky Sharma, Joshua Ogunlola, Osita Onwuzulike, Isaac Okpe and James Chukwu.

The list also include Ayo Mene-Ejegi, Chimezie Onwuzulike, Dotun Olatunji, Siji Onikoyi, Chukwudi Mgbojikwe, Yusuf Gershon, Joshua Ayannaike, Jaymin Parab, Harpreet Singh, Emmanuel Gowon, Daniel Ajekun, Afeez Obisesan, Olugbon Olympio, Sesan Adedeji and Usman Adebiyi  .

Wiltshire revealed that Coach Uthe Ogbimi, a former Nigerian international, who has won many caps for the country, will be in charge at the camp.
