Nigerian Police Ready To Fight Crime

Lagos State Police Commissioner, Umaru Manko, says the Lagos State Police Command is ready to fight crime this year.

The commissioner spoke at the end of the State Security Council meeting held at the State House, Marina in Lagos, Nigeria.

The meeting was chaired by Governor Babatunde Fashola.

According to Manko, residents of Lagos State should support security agencies in the New Year in order to fight crime in the state this year.

“Security agencies with the support of the State Government and the public will do everything to ensure that Lagos is and remains a peaceful place for all the residents who are engaged in lawful business,” he said.

The police commissioner said the state was crime-free during the yuletide period, saying that this was because security agents were up and doing.

“The beauty of it is that the State Government has made very huge investments in security and the dividends of that investment is this peace you are witnessing,” he stated.

On the Jankara firecracker explosion, Manko said: “somebody has been arrested.  The matter is under investigation and by the time we are through with the investigation, whatever is the outcome of that matter will be made public.

“Citizens of the state should be more security conscious and ensure that where they have or see objects that they are not familiar with, they should please contact the security agencies on 767 or 112.

“We want to solicit for that support so that together we should be able to make Lagos very free and safe this year,” he said.

Among those who attended the meeting were the State Director of the State Security Service, Mr Achu Olayi; Commander 9 Brigade, Ikeja Cantonment, Brigadier General Pat Aken; Commanding Officer, NNS Beecroft Apapa, Navy Commodore Martins Njoku, and Commander 435 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore Sunday Wukangha and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Major Tunde Panox (retd).
