Ogun Fire Victims Get Succour

The Ogun State Government has distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to victims of 2 January, 2013 petrol tanker fire at Ago-Egun, Idi-Iroko in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

The government also reassured residents of its determination to put in place appropriate measures to prevent human and natural disasters in future.

Materials donated to the victims include 100 pieces of mattresses, 100 pieces of blankets, 200 pieces of mosquito nets and 20 bags of rice.

The governor who spoke through his Special Adviser on Environment, Barrister Bimbo Lanre-Balogun, pointed out that the determination to protect lives and properties largely informed the decision of government to issue the movement restriction order to truck and trailer drivers.

The governor sympathised with the families of the fire victims. The fire claimed six lives, including a mother and two of her children and 15 others were left with various degree of injuries.

The governor assured residents of his readiness to further cushion the effects of the unfortunate incident and prevent future occurrence.

Senator Amosun also disclosed that efforts were already on to provide

financial assistance to the victims of the New Year fire disaster which consumed two houses and 10 shops with goods worth millions of naira destroyed.

According to him,“let me assure our people that we will always be

there for them at all times, particularly in times of needs like this.

“In this wise, plans are on already to give financial assistance to victims of the inferno. We have also taken steps to put an end to this ugly occurrence.”

Receiving the relief materials on behalf of the victims, the Chief

Environmental Officer of Ipokia Local Government, Alhaji Gafar Kayode Ojo, commended the state government for sparing a thought for the victims with the donation of relief materials to alleviate their pains, promising that the materials would be given to them

accordingly.

Alhaji Ojo disclosed that the local government with the support of the state government was taking steps to check indiscriminate location of filling stations, a factor which he said contributed to fire disasters in recent time.
