The Shame of Nigeria Police: Jonathan saw all
President Goodluck Jonathan, on Friday paid a surprise visit to the decrepit Police College, Ikeja, Lagos, to have a firsthand assessment of the premier institution. Witnesses said he could not believe what he saw: facilities that have fallen into disrepair, beds without foams, bathrooms more remarkable for their dirt and filth.
The President visited the college on his way to Cote d’Ivoire, the spokesman of the Force Headquarters, CSP Frank Mba, confirmed.

The visit was a fact finding inspection of the facilities and environment of the institution, where thousands of Nigeria police officers receive training, following a mind-boggling report by Channels Television.
He was taken around by the Commandant of the institution, Mr. IRIMIYA YERIMA
A police source said that the visit was intended to enable the president to address certain issues hampering the provision of high-quality training for policemen.
“He said that Mr Reuben Abati, the presidential spokesman told few journalists around that the President’s visit was a surprise and brief one.
“Abati said that the entourage was on its way to Cote d’Ivoire and that the visit was a stopover.’’
