Declare Emergency Against Poverty, urges Group

BY EROMOSELE EBHOMELE

Nigeria’s  National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations (NACOMYO) has decried the level of poverty in the country and urged the Federal government to declare a state of emergency against the scourge.

In a communiqué issued by the coalition after a meeting held at the Islamic Centre, Zaria, Kaduna State, it noted that the situation in the country was getting out of control and that the government must desperately become focused and solve most of these man-made challenges.

NACOMYO called on the leadership of the country at all levels to declare state of emergency on poverty, unemployment and change in the value system that will enhance productivity in the country.

The communiqué, signed by the National President of the coalition, Alhaji Kamal’deen Akintunde, as well as its General Secretary, Malam Binyamin Yusuf, also drew attention to the insecurity in the country.

“Corruption remains a serious impediment on the path of Nigeria’s journey to greatness as evident in the recent discovery of the Senate of the Federal Republic on the issue of bribe taking for federal government employment as well as the issue of pension scam in the country.

“The Council therefore calls on all authorities concerned to swiftly and more seriously save the nation from this cankerworm that has eaten deep into the fabric of the society and fast becoming a threat to its future,” it stated.
