3 Charged With Armed Robbery

The Nigerian police in Lagos have charged three men before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing jewellery worth N2 million from a complainant, Mr. Lateef Raji.
In charge number CR/MISC/L/02/13, the police alleged that the accused, Shadu Musari, Ahmed Abdulkareem and Sodiq Dauda on 11 November, 2012 at Ladipo, Oshodi Lagos conspired to commit felony, to wit, armed robbery.
The offence is contrary to Section 5(b)and punishable under Section 1(2(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provisions) Act, Cap. 398, Vol.XX11, Laws of the Federation, 1990, as amended.
Count two of the charge reads: “That you, Shadu Musari, Ahmed Abdulkareem and others now at large on the same time and date, and place in the aforementioned magisterial district armed yourselves with gun and other dangerous weapons and stole jewellery valued at N2,000,000; two ipads valued at N240,000; one laptop, valued at N160,000; recharge cards valued at N250,000 and N200,000 cash belonging to Lateef Raji of Ladipo, Oshodi area of Lagos and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 1(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provisions) Act, Cap. 398, Vol.XXII, Laws of the Federation, 1990, as amended.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Akanni granted bail to the third defendant while the first and second defendants await the DPP’s advice on their prosecution.
The matter has been adjourned till 27 February, 2013.
