Man jailed for Urine in Soup

A 38-year old trader, Taofeeq Shobulo, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Ojokoro Senior Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for urinating in a pot of soup.

The convict, who pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of misconduct and provoking breach of peace, was sentenced on Tuesday.

Magistrate K. O. Ogundare sentenced the accused to six months imprisonment on each of the count but said that the sentence would run concurrently.

“Having found you Taofeeq Shobulo, guilty, you are hereby sentenced to six-months imprisonment which will be served concurrently,” he said.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Lugard Ahonle had told the Court that Shobulo committed the offence on January 17 at Gatankowa market, Oke-Odo, Lagos at 3.15 p.m.

“Shobulo had asked the food vendor, Mrs. Olayiwola Olayemisi, to sell food to him on credit which she refused because, according to her, the accused was fond of eating without paying.

“The accused later came back while the food vendor was not looking and urinated into her pot of soup,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 136 and 411 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
