Police Arrest Ghanaian Arms Dealer

The Nigeria Police has arrested a Ghanaian arms supplier, Daniel Ofori, and a Nigerian, Olufumilayo Adeyemo, who are suspected to be supplying arms and ammunition to criminals in some parts of Nigeria.

They were arrested at Idiroko, a border town in Ogun state, southwest Nigeria. They were caught with 5,564 rounds of live cartridges concealed in the engine of a Mercedes Benz 420 SE saloon car with registration CC 270 FKJ.

According to a  statement by the police public relations department, Daniel Ofori was driving the car when they were arrested. They were said to be travelling to Lagos, Nigeria, from Ghana via Benin Republic and have been detained by the detectives from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, on orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.

In another development, Edo state Police command recently discovered an arms factory in the area.

The arms recovered from the factory include: 2 double barrel pipes, 2 single gun butts, 9 single gun pipes, 1 locally made cut-to-size gun pipe, 10 single barrel gun engines, 7 expended cartridges, one drilling machine and a bag of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

Two suspects, Abiodun Odini and Ohikhuemen Alex were arrested in connection with the discovery of the factory.  They are currently undergoing interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of police has commended his men for the arrest of the suspects in the two incidents, and directed detectives to conclude investigations into the cases with dispatch.
