All Set For Battle Of Musical Clans
By Bayo Adetu
The stage is set for the maiden edition of Battle of the Musical Clans, a musical competition that will incorporate aspects of reality entertainment and stage competition on television. The competition, which is designed to discover the king of Nigeria’s musical clans, will also reflect Nigeria’s musical culture.
Charles Nwafor, creator and coordinator Musical Clans, believes the reality television show will open up many parts of Nigeria that have not been recognised in the past. “This unique project is divided into 26 musical clans with Lagos having 15 of the clans, which include Festac Town, Ajegunle, Okoko, Ikeja, Surulere, Ajah, VI, Benin, Sapele/Warri (Wafee), Imo/Abia (East- Side) Rivers/Bayelsa (River-Side) AkwaIbom/Calabar (Water-Side), Jos, Abuja, Kaduna/ Kano (K- Side),” he said.
Nwafor believes that a musical clan is made up of any musically active area. “A musical clan is any area actively involved in the production of popular music in Nigeria with star artistes emerging from it. Each clan will have mentors and musical ambassadors, the mentors will include star music artistes from the clans who will groom the clan representatives selected through an audition with options to ensure their clans have strong representatives who can fly their flags at the main battle,” he said.
The show also aims at hunting for new talents, recorded or non-recorded artistes or talented individuals who will register to compete and represent their clans. It will also afford fledgling artistes the opportunity to launch their careers. The competition will have different stages and musical tasks for the representing clans.
Eviction will be based on a combination of factors like successful execution of musical tasks, voting from audience and appraisals from judges. The judges will be made up of star artistes, academics and entertainment industry professionals.
