Bricklayer charged Over sex pertner’s Death

A bricklayer, whose lover died shortly after he had sexual intercourse with her, on Thursday appeared before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a charge of manslaughter.

The police arraigned Lawrence Chukwuma, 48, over the death of Miss Lucy Joseph, 28.

Chukwuma, a resident of 23, Oke-Morosun, Magbon in Badagry, Lagos, is facing a count charge before Magistrate Okunsanya Badejo.

The prosecutor, Corporal Cyriacus Osuji, said that the bricklayer committed the crime on December 1, 2012 at his residence.

Osuji said that the deceased complained of a chest pain shortly after the intercourse and was confirmed dead the same day in a hospital,” Osuji said.

He said that the deceased visited the bricklayer and had planned to spend a week in his house.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 22 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty. The court granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case has been adjourned till February 25 for mention.

Also, a teenager and two others, who allegedly cut off a man’s hand, on Thursday appeared before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a four-count charge.

The accused, Sule Abiola, 19, Abiodun Abolade, 20 and Samuel John, 24, are facing charges of conspiracy, stealing, unlawful damage and unlawful infliction of wound.

The prosecutor, Inspector Clement Okuiomose, said that the defendants cut off the right hand of Mr. Isimalia Elemosho with a cutlass and stole his telephone handset worth N6,000 as well as N7,000.

The prosecutor said that the defendants also broke the windscreen of a car belonging to Bishop J.B. Ajayi.

He said that the windscreen was valued at N8,000.

The prosecutor said that the defendants committed the crimes on November 23, 2012 at Iponri in Surulere, Lagos. Okuiomose added that the defendants committed the crimes when Elemosho scolded them for causing a breach of the peace in the area.

“Samuel John cut off Elemosho’s right hand,” Okuiomose said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 409, 348, 275 and 244 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.

The trio, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr. O.O. Olatunji, granted each of them bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 27 for further hearing.
