500,000 Blood Donors Needed In Lagos
If 500,000 Lagosians can donate blood voluntarily, there will be enough blood in all blood banks in the state, says Dr. Hakim Akinlade, a consultant on public health.
Akinlade disclosed this at a four-day blood donation drive organised by the Lagos State Transfusion Service in collaboration with the Rotary Club at the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
Speaking on people’s apathy to blood donation, Akinlade advised them to go to government hospitals to donate blood, adding that blood donation centres were in all the five divisions of the state.
He urged all to see blood donation as a civic duty that must be observed by everyone in the society, adding that people must form the habit of donating blood regularly so that those in need can benefit from it.
At the end of the exercise, 75 people, including students and staff of the Nigerian Law School donated blood.
The Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service recently launched Club 25 at the Lagos State School of Health Technology, Yaba in its efforts toward recruiting more blood donors.
