Basketball: Deepwater Target League Title Again

With few weeks before the commencement of the 2012/2013 Nigerian women’s basketball league, the defending champions, First Deepwater Club of Lagos have set their eyes on retaining the title they have been winning in the last three seasons.

Coach of the team, Lateef Erinfolami  told P.MNews during their training at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos that their aim is to lift the league trophy once again this season, which  informed the decision to begin early training ahead of the dunk off date of the new season.

Erinfolami, who was a former national team player, said “We have commenced training since the beginning of the new year.  Our target is to retain the domestic league title once again this season.”

When asked on the response of his players to training and whether there will be new players into the team, a confidence booming Erinfolami said: “My girls are responding very well to training and with their performance in the pre-season tournament we had, I’ve the confidence we are in good shape for the new season. We are still looking at the possibility of bringing in one or two players to strengthen the team.”

Meanwhile, the most valuable player of last season, Nkechi Akashili also assured their teeming fans that they will do their best to ensure that they retain the title this season.
