Jonathan Must Sack Ministers —Robert Clark

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Robert Clark, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to sack his ministers in order to achieve positive result during the remaining part of his administration.

Clark made the call during a television programme monitored in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, on Wednesday.

Speaking on Sunrise, a Channels Television interactive programme, Clark said 80 percent of Nigerians are not happy because of the poor performance of the president’s cabinet.

He warned against any plan to increase the prices of petroleum products because it could ignite the country due to the prevailing anger of the people.

Also speaking on the massive corruption involving government officials, Clark said the system encourages it, and that is why government officials and politicians steal billions of naira and get away with it.

He cited the example of a minister who fraudulently awarded a N32 billion contract to himself in order to raise money for his governorship ambition. And when he contested and lost the election, nothing happened because there is nothing in the system that could enable anyone challenge such fraudulent award of contract.

On the merger of opposition parties to wrest power from the People’s Democratic Party in 2015, he said it would pose a serious threat to President Jonathan’s quest to be re-elected for another term.

According to Clark, if the merger succeeds, Jonathan would find it difficult to garner 25% of votes from 2/3 of the 36 states for him to win clearly as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution.

On the centenary celebration, he said it is a miracle that Nigeria has remained as an entity since its amalgamation in 1914, adding that the event should be marked rather than celebrated with billions of naira.

He said he’s optimistic that the country would remain united except a tyrant merges on the scene and tries to lord it over everybody as this could lead to disintegration.
