Cops to keep peace in town after suspect’s father lynched
The Nigerian police in the eastern state of Imo on Saturday said armed policemen were deployed to Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area, to contain the tension following a violent protest on Friday.
The youths of the area in protest had killed the father of one of the suspects in the murder of the deputy governors’ aide, Mr Laz Anyanwu.
Mr Vitalis Onugu, the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident and said that the situation “is under control as police men have been deployed to contain it.’’
Following the parade of the suspects at the Owerri police headquarters on Friday, the angry youth lynched Mr Daniel Ibe, the father of one of the suspects.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that one of the suspects, Udoka Ibe, hails from Amaimo in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State, the same LGA as the late Anyanwu.
The protesting youth had set fire to Daniel Ibe’s house before lynching him.
