Nations Cup Fallout: Onazi Set To Quit Lazio

South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations star, Nigerian Ogenyi Onazi has said he hopes to quit Lazio in Italy at season’s end and believes his showings with Nigeria’s Super Eagles could make this possible.

The former schoolboy international, who recently signed an improved deal with Lazio till 2016, has lately seen very limited playing time at the Rome-based club.

He told MTNFootball.com that he is open to a better deal when the summer transfer window opens.

“Though I am happy with my club Lazio, I look forward to a move in the summer and I am hoping this Nations Cup win would play a huge role in this regard,” said Onazi, who was discovered at the Prophet T.B. Joshua’s My People Football Club in Lagos.

Onazi watched from the bench as fourth-placed Lazio fell 3-0 to Innocent Emeghara’s Siena on Monday.

Onazi was one of the shining lights as Nigeria went all the way to claim a third Nations Cup in South Africa this month.

He proved his versatility when he filled in for the suspended Efe Ambrose at right back before he came in for the suspended Fegor Ogude at defensive midfield to keep his place in the Eagles starting XI.
